Neighbors prohibit children from taking their father’s corpse

The remains of 72-year-old former state employee Nathan Dominique E. were the bone of contention this July 11 in the Kotto village neighborhood of Douala.

According to neighbors, the old man had been abandoned by his children following his wife’s death some three years ago. The children, all employees in great companies, accused their father of killing their mother mystically.

For the past three years, Nathan had been left to the care of neighbors of good will. They explain that they did everything for him including his laundry. It is one of the neighbors, a lady, who found him dead in bed when she brought plums for him to eat. The inhabitants of the Kotto Village neighborhood immediately informed his younger brother who lives in Souza, Mungo division of his demise. Prior to his arrival, two of the deceased man’s sons went to the scene and were attacked by neighbors for abandoning their father. They went further to prohibit them from touching his body.

It is his younger brother who finally attempted to do so but his car caught fire suddenly. with nobody around for them to accuse of arson, they were advised by neighbors to ask for forgiveness from the dead man and God in order to have peace. The remains of Nathan are currently at the Deido district hospital morgue pending burial.
