Poachers kill eco-guard in Bouba Djidda gunbattle

The eco-guard, Saoulhoul Blaise, was shot dead as elements from the Ministry of defense and ministry of Forestry and wildlife struggled to push back heavily armed poachers in the park.

The Bouba Djiadda national park borders Chad in the North region and is home to several species. poaching activities here have been on the rise and Wednesday’s shooting was not the first time, the ministry revealed in a communique.

Minister Jules Doret Ndongo on behalf of the personnel of his Ministry has extended sincere condolences to the bereaved family. According to the MINFOF boss, such an unfortunate incident is not new in this protected area plagued by incursions of criminal armed gangs and gold miners always in search of trophies of protected animal species and precious materials.

The Minister in a communique appreciated the collaboration of the population, eco-guards, with the defense and security forces whose support made it possible to limit damage to all protected areas.

He encouraged them to persevere in the effort despite the truly difficult working conditions. He reiterated the commitment of the government to assist them as well as improve their standards of living.
