Mbankolo: Archbishop Jean Mbarga commits to helping victims of landslide

The Archbishop of Yaounde, Jean Mbarga has expressed his condolences to the victims of the landslide that occurred on Sunday, October 8, 2023, in the Yaounde 2 Council area.
The Archbishop promised that the church is committed to assisting the victims in any way they can.
He was speaking after he visited the landslide site on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, to offer a mass for the deceased souls.
“We decided to come and give compassion to these people, let them know we are together in this situation. We are going to give them more help, spiritually, and socially. We will come again to listen, pray, and assist in any way we can, to help them overcome the situation,”.
The Bishop further stated that he is hoping that the situation will make the government and authorities improve the standard of the area and give good conditions for the people living in the area.
The landslide occurred in the Mbankolo neighborhood in Yaounde 2 municipality in the late hours of Sunday, October 8, 2023.
By the end of the search, authorities declared 30 deaths and about 20 injured including a 3-week-old baby responding to treatment in the hospital.
