MAGIL Suspends work at Olembe stadium.
The MAGIL construction company contracted for works at the Olembe stadium in Yaounde has announced they have decided to suspend work for a period of 30 days. Contained in a press release signed July 20, 2022, the suspension took effect this July 22nd.
The company denounces the non-respect of clauses of their contract by the government of Cameroon, the non-payment of sub-contractors and suppliers leading to debts worth of a total amount of F CFA 12 billion.
The communique explains that till date and despite multiple reminders sent to the ministry of sports and physical education, the latter is yet to pay the amount owed. A group of persons affected by this are sub-contractors who worked tirelessly to enable the smooth organization of the just ended African Cup of Nations. In addition, and despite the existence of a tax-exempt market, the project owner has still not produced the certificates of payment of value added taxes and customs duties, posing a significant risk to all project actors.
MAGIL further says it expects concrete regularization measures from the sports ministry otherwise in their capacity as administrative agent, they will use all contractual and legal means to preserve their rights as well as those of the sub-contractors.
