Legendary Fon Angwafor III Goes Missing
News of the missing paramount ruler of Mankon, the centre town in Bamenda, North West region, spread like wildfire in the dry season. Since Sunday 15, 2022 news about his visit to his ancestors was rife but with no clear indication nor a family source confirming.
Several other close sources said the rumors were just like any other fake story but a week later it became evident that the former Member of Parliament was no longer seated on his throne in Makon.
State media announced that he has gone missing without giving further details about his disappearance.
Political Life
Fon Solomon Anye Ndefru Angwafor III, has served as the Vice President of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM. He became one of the first Members of Parliament after the independence of Southern Cameroons in 1961. Serving the parliament from 19962 to 1988. He has remained a huge political figure in the country. In 2016 during the start of the armed conflict in the Anglophone regions, Fon Angwafor III said the Anglophone problem was just like any other issue in the country and that people had the right to complain,
“What sense is there to breaking all that we’ve built as a nation and starting all over again? You can’t move forward without talking and without mistakes. The worse of it is to start afresh because if we start a new Cameroon, in fifty years we would have discovered other problems and some may resolve to start again. We’ve gone for more than half a century. If you stop to think you will see that it has not been good for all of us. In that case, it is right to say that the government should do something.” he told journalists, Francis Ekongang and Nchong Chrisantus.
Education
The missing traditional authority attended the Aggrey Memorial College in Eastern Nigeria between 1945 and 1950. He would later be admitted into the University of Ibadan where he graduated in 1953 with a Diploma in Agriculture. He became the Fon of Mankon in 1959.
