Inhabitants of Wum say they have now spent 5 years without electricity

The people of Wum, Menchum division of the North West region say they have been without electricity ever since the socio-political crisis started in the two English speaking regions.

Poles which had been planted by the electricity supply company ENEO, have been don for several years and are abandoned and buisnesses have been crippled.

“I really want the government to look at us and know the importance of electricity and we will be grateful. We have suffered and are still suffering.Without electricity we cannot do business or anything and its been years of us living in these conditions. Please you out there should help us send our words and cry to the government, “Kum Anastacia a small business owner in Wum cries out.

“If bikes dont pass around, we will not see even a little light so you can imagine what we go through here. Sounds funny but it is not. Imagjne having to live without electricity for so long, using candles for years which is very risky as we have kids .We do not know what we can do again for the government to have mercy on us and help bring back electricity. I am a bar owner and this is time for merry-making, time to make extra money but at night I cannot sell because people cannot drink using candles,” Alfred Muyang a bar owner laments.

“The poor suffer the most because others get larger solar panels and generators and install in their homes and business sites but for some of us who cannot afford that, we pay money to charge our phones and live in darkness. I cannot say we are getting used to this way of living because darkness is no one’s friend but we have been abandoned totally and the crisis is being blamed as many are scared of entering our home town for fear of being killed or kidnapped which is not an excuse,” Tania Asoh explains.

The people of Wum further complain of children being obliged to use candles to study and are once more calling on competent authorities to step up and solve their problem.
