Human And Digital Rights Activist, Rebecca Enonchon, Arrested In Douala
A Magistrate at the Bonanjo Court of First Instance on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, ordered the arrest of Tech guru, US-based Rebecca Enonchong.
The human and digital rights activist has spent two days in a cell at the Douala Gendarmerie Legion. Cameroon News Agency learned that she is being tried for contempt of court. She is said to have asked the Magistrate to assign only one investigation for her in a private case but the Magistrate saw this as an insult and an interruption of the legal procedure.
Without a warrant, he ordered her arrest and trial.
Women rights groups, politicians and Activists have called for her immediate release. The National President of the Cameroon People’s Party, Edith Kah Walla, has said it is a slap on the face of justice, adding that there is more to it than contempt of court.

DW Journalist and Publisher of Mimi Mefo Info, Mimi Mefo Takambu, who has worked closely with Rebecca Enonchong has called for release without conditions.
She is perhaps one of the most influential #African women, impacting on, and inspiring more persons than #Cameroon's President ever will in 7 lifetimes. @africatechie's arrest further confirms why many don't feel the need to invest in that country. #freeRebecca pic.twitter.com/c5OxePyAZg
