Over 1000 newly admitted students of HIBMAT University Institute of Buea (HUIB) for the 2022/2023 academic year have vowed to abide by the institution’s rules and regulations. They took the matriculation oath on Saturday 26, November 2022, during the 12th matriculation and induction ceremony at the university’s campus B in Buea.

This matriculation ceremony brought together professors and traditional rulers from the South West and North West regions, representatives of the Vice Chancellors of the University of Buea and Bamenda, the General Supervisor of the Regional Hospital Buea, General Supervisor of Faculty of Health Sciences, the President, Registrar, and Rector of HUIB, and other dignitaries.

Speaking during the event, Jude Chilaka, President and CEO of HUIB, called on the new fresh men and women to embrace the new academic environment as he underscored the importance of abiding by the rules and regulations governing the institution.

He emphasized the need to shun all forms of corrupt practices and stay away from areas of distraction. For one thing, they will require the highest form of commitment, dedication, and sacrifice to sail through their studies at HUIB.

The President used the opportunity to thank the mentor Universities of Bamenda and Buea, for their support and sacrifice and for keeping a very serene mentor-mentee relationship.

“We thank the University of Bamenda and Buea for ensuring appropriate academic control of all our programs and the general supervisors of Regional hospitals and solidarity to watch our Institute of Health Sciences matriculate.”

The hallmark of the event was the unveiling of the School of Health Sciences, the institution’s newly established higher institute, which has seen 40 students enrolled for the first batch.

During his address, the guest speaker, Nfon Mukete Ekoko V, the paramount ruler of the Bafaw, encouraged all matriculating students to work hard in order to succeed.

“Experience is the best teacher, and even Jesus Christ understood that creating direction in his disciples’ lives needed to start with trust. Stay with a crowded few, for they are like the 12 Disciples when Jesus decided to stay just with a crowded few.”

He also called on the students to stay focused during their studies as he noted that with the right orientation and education, young learners can create and produce healthy fruits.

Raising up their hands as a sign of acceptance to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution and to be fully committed to their studies, the Rector of HUIB, Prof. Ibrahim Tala Kashim, formally admitted these 1000 deserving and qualified students into HUIB. Welcoming them to the university institute for professionals, he invited them to take their studies a top priority as it is the basis of belonging to the HUIB family.

Going by the Rector’s comment, matriculation is an important exercise for all higher institutions of learning and it is a prerequisite for graduation.

To some of the matriculating students, it was a rare privilege to belong to the prestigious professional institution.

“I am a fresh medical student and I really feel happy being part of HUIB. I told my family that I must apply at HUIB because I had seen the great things and changes this institution did to my cousin who now has a job.” A freshman, Federick Foretia, told CNA.

The students were admitted for the 2022/2023 academic year to offer programs under the Schools of Business and Management Sciences (HIBMAT), Engineering and Technology (HIET), and Health Sciences (HIHS) at the HND, BSc, B-Tech, and MBA levels.

In line with the institution’s Christian values, the 2022 matriculation and induction ceremony started with Holy Mass officiated by the Parish Priest of Mile 14 Dibanda who called on the students to put God first in every daily endeavor.

The visit to the Civil Engineering, Computer, and Medical laboratories and an interesting creation by the Tourism and Hotel Management department colored the occasion.
