Eq. Guinea: Cameroon consulate say they will help with repatriation process

Cameroon’s Consul General in Bata, Equatorial Guinea has reacted to the recent control and deportation of some Cameroonians in the country by its authorities.

In a communique made public on 26 October 2022, the Consul General, Etoundi M. N. Richard said the vast operation of control and expulsion of foreigners who are living in the country illegally, launched since October 20 is an irrevocable decision of a sovereign nation.

“In reaction, the Head of State [Paul Biya] ordered the disbursement of funds (undisclosed) to cover voluntary repatriation with property. The related procedures are being finalized,” explained the Consul General in the communique.

Etoundi M. N. Richard added that once the envelope is effectively made available to deal with the situation, the consulate in Bata will immediately organize a voluntary repatriation but while waiting, the consulate will be sending a first set of 15 people on Saturday 29 October, 2022 at 9:00am.

The communique reads that those who are interested but cannot go to the consulate will be picked up from their homes.

Etoundi M. N. Richard reiterated his encouragement to Cameroonians in Equatorial Guinea during this difficult times, urging them to remain cautious and calm as well as have faith in Cameroon’s diplomatic institutions which according to him are out to primarily protect and guide them in any complicated environment and situation.
