Fresh concerns have emerged over the safety of religious personnel and other travelers in Cameroon’s conflict-affected North West Region. Five Catholic clerics were kidnapped along Bambui–Fundong road.
The victims, comprising two priests, two nuns, and a Mill Hill missionary, were kidnapped by armed men on Friday. They were returning to Bamenda from an ordination ceremony held at Saint Jude Parish in Fundong.
Among those abducted are, Rev. Brother Huub Walters, a veteran Mill Hill missionary who has served in the region for decades, Rev. Fr. Ignatius Nshing, Rev. Fr. Alex, and two nuns whose identities had not yet been confirmed.
Four other civilians were among the clerics kidnapped by Gunmen.
There is persistent security challenges facing civilians and religious workers travelling along the Bambui–Fundong corridor, an area repeatedly affected by violence linked to the ongoing conflict in the North West and South West regions.
