New People’s Consultative Conference Platform Created to Seek Anglophone Conflict Resolution

A new platform, the People’s Consultative Conference (TPCC), has been created to bring together people from the North-West and South-West regions to discuss the ongoing conflict and explore possible paths toward a lasting solution.

In a declaration titled “Towards a Permanent Solution,” the convenors said the initiative would provide an inclusive space for people with different political convictions, identities and experiences to contribute to efforts to resolve the crisis.

The declaration is signed on behalf of a 10-member College of Convenors comprising Bah Augustine Ndangam, Prof. John Fobanjong, Pa Andrew Azong Wara, Dr. Lucie Ngongbo, HRH Dr. Tanyi Robinson, Rev. Dr. Enochong Mbiwan, Rev. Dr. Godwill Ncham, Sessekou/Dr. Sammy B. Arrey-Mbi, Alhadji Mohammed Aboubakar, chief imam of Buea, and Imam Tukur Mohammed Adamu.

The process will begin with broad-based consultations involving communities in the two regions and members of the diaspora. The consultations will gather people’s experiences, concerns and priorities ahead of a physical conference scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Delegates will examine the findings and discuss the way forward. Specific dates for both phases have yet to be announced.

The convenors said the platform would not replace existing organisations or determine political leadership. Participants would not be required to abandon their unionist, federalist or independentist positions.

The declaration cites previous efforts, including the All Anglophone Conferences held in Buea in 1993 and Bamenda in 1994.

The convenors called for inclusive participation, peaceful engagement and prayers every Friday at 3 p.m. for the initiative’s success.
