Sergeant Ondobo Raphael may not have committed suicide

The reports hit the internet this June 2nd 2022. A sergeant whose name CNA got as Ondobo Raphael, is accused of choosing suicide over facing the consequences of his suspected actions.

The initial version has it that Ondobo Raphael was part of group which scammed 60 persons of the amount of 15 million promising to help them relocate to countries including the USA, Canada, the UK and France to name but these. It is alleged that the amount of F CFA 250.000 was taken from each victim with the promise that the remainder (3.5 million each) would be paid once they arrived their countries of choice.

Tired of waiting for their feet to touch their dream land, the victims reportedly chose to report the matter to hierarchy. It is the fear of the consequences of his actions that supposedly pushed the sergeant to choose suicide. This story appears credible but another hypothesis has since been given by the deceased’s colleagues.

At the Yaounde military brigade headquarters, it is said that sergeant Ondobo was just a small member of a larger group. It is explained that he was poisoned by his accomplices to avoid jail time. The story told there is that the Sergeant had threatened to expose the group members if the issues of the waiting travelers was not solved. It is this threat that reportedly pushed them to poison the sergeant who is today accused of committing suicide.

Another source goes further to claim the deceased had told his wife that he was having issues with his supervising Captain at work and the question on minds now is if it is possible that this captain was part of the gang.

How could a simple sergeant be credible enough to get people to pay in the said 15 million? Was he just the visible face sent ahead by a network of more influential people? How could a supposed scammer choose to put an end to his days over the amount of F CFA 15 million which he could have used to move to a safer location (if he indeed had it)? So many questions among others which will only be answered once investigations are concluded.
