Far North: At least five persons killed in recent Boko Haram attacks

At least 5 persons including a gendarme officer have died following Boko Haram insurgencies in the far North between July 30, to August 1, 2023.

According to reports on the night of July 30, the terrorist group launched an attack on the Assangechia gendarmerie station in the Mayo Tsanaga division. The attack led to confrontations, following a counterattack by security forces and in the course of this a gendarme officer was killed while three of his colleagues, and a member of the vigilante committee were injured.

According to the Divisional Officer of Mayo Tsanaga division, David Dibango, it was due to the intervention of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR that routed the attackers. “Two Boko Haram insurgents were neutralized by the BIR, two grenades and two cartridges were seized ,”.

The sect reportedly launched a simultaneous attack in the Lamram 2 village in the Mayo Tsanaga division and the Djibiri village in the Mayo Moskota division on the night of July 31 – August 1, leaving four persons dead and several others injured

The attackers also seized several valuable items from the population before retreating to neighboring Nigeria.

The Boko Haram sect has been intensifying deadly attacks in the Far North region, especially in localities bordering Cameroon and Nigeria, where the sect began.

According to statistics from the International Crisis Group this year since 2014, the terrorist group has killed about 3,000 civilians and soldiers, kidnapped more than a thousand people, and displaced about 250000 persons in the Far North region.
