Eto’o Eyes Fecafoot Top Job
The retired former Indomatbale Lion’s captain has deposited his candidacy at the head office of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, in Yaounde.
Accompanied by a crowd that came to support him, Samuel Eto’o Fils warned that there are rumours that his delegates are being threatened by the incumbent, Seidou Mbombo Njoya.
The man who has participated in four World Cups and six Africa’s Cup of Nations and is currently the all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, with over 18 goals, said he was ready to bring all his might including the government on anyone who dares to intimidate his delegates.
Samuel Eto’o Fils after depositing his candidacy file and guaranteeing his supporters he will win and become FECAFOOT President despite alarming fraud and corruption within the Cameroon Football Federation was seen on Thursday, November 18, 2021, with Clement Atangana, President of the Constitutional Council.
Commentators say the move is aimed at demoralising incumbent FECAFOOT President, Seidou Mbombo Njoya. Others will say shows Eto’o Fils’ determination to tackle any fraud in the election.
A back negotiation for Eto’o to drop from the race and take the position of First Vice President of FECAFOOT failed as Eto’o vehemently refuse to listen to words from CAF and FIFA, sports media has reported.
