Eigth Die in Tiko Tanker Explosion

A tragic explosion has ripped through Likomba, a town in Tiko, leaving a trail of destruction and sorrow in its wake. As of the latest reports, the devastating incident has claimed the lives of eight individuals, a painful loss that has deeply affected the community.

The explosion took place in the early hours of this Friday, sending shockwaves of fear and grief throughout the region. Viang Mekala, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Fako, has been at the forefront of assessing the situation and coordinating the response efforts.

In his official report, SDO Mekala detailed the significant damage caused by the powerful blast, confirming that at least eight vehicles sustained substantial damage as a direct result of the explosion’s force. Furthermore, the sheer intensity of the explosion was such that it led to the destruction of numerous houses located in the immediate vicinity of the blast site.

This widespread destruction has left behind a scene of utter devastation, compounding the suffering of the affected residents and presenting significant challenges for rescue and recovery operations. The authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Three people survived the incident and are receiving treatment at the Limbe Regional Hospital. Traffic on National Road No. 8 was halted for hours, with emergency operations continuing at the time of this report.

The fuel tanker was coming from the oil city of Limbe to Douala when it collided with a 30-seater bus around Likomba.
