Heavy rains that lasted for hours on Thursday June 30 have left the national capital city of Yaounde flooded.
Notable areas were the city center where most businesses are concentrated, such as the Avenue Kennedy where pictures posted on social media showed cars almost completely submerged under water.
Yaounde has a poor infrastructure system as leaders have not shown a readiness to address both the issue of roads as well as sewers and waste collection.
The issue comes from the fact that most of the city is low-lying and waste collection by the waste collection company HYSACAM is not much appreciated by residents who litter the streets with plastic papers and bottles which end up blocking the few drainages that do exist in the capital of some 3 million inhabitants.
Similar flooding is quite common in parts of the seaside economic capital of Douala too.
The month of July is one of the rainiest months in Yaounde.
