Douala explosion: Here is what happened
Vendors and buyers of the “marché central” were busy going about their activities as usual when at about 3:30 p.m. an explosion occured. A package is reported to have been left in the midst of vendors and was apparently detonated leaving 6 people injured: 2 men and 4 women. One of the victims says “I was standing and I heard a loud noise upon looking down I saw smoke then there was blood on my legs. I rushed to get water to clean up.”
For a few hours, the usual hustle and bustle at the Douala Central market stopped but upon arrival of elements of the Police and Gendarmerie forces, business activities resumed. Traders cannot clearly identify who left the bag there but they affirm he was onboard a motorcycle.
On the site, debris of the explosive can be found and security forces claim they damage could have been more extensive if it had been properly mounted.
The bomb blast on August 4 2022, comes two days after a warning was sent out by the Delegation for National Security, DGSN, sent out a message warning about planned attacks targeting the West, Littoral, Centre, North West and South West regions.
