Douala: decomposing body of 37-year-old man found in his home

The decomposing body of a 37-year-old man identified as Eric has been discovered Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023, in the Bepanda tapis rouge neighborhood in the Douala V sub-division. The macabre discovery was made by a neighbour.

“I perceived a pungent smell from the family home occupied by Eric alone. As I tried finding out what was stinking, I stumbled on his corpse,” the deceased’s neighbour explained.

Immediately, he said he contacted Eric’s uncle and informed him of the incident. Upon his arrival, the Gendarmerie was contacted but upon arrival at the scene, they reportedly refused collecting the corpse, telling the population it was not their responsibility.

“When the Gendarmes told me it was not their job and drove off, I called the army rescue unit who told me they will see what to do. I have been waiting since,” the deceased’s uncle said.

The quarter head also raised concerns on the matter saying “the whole neighborhood is stinking. Many people can be infected. We don’t know if he was suffering from a dangerous disease that can spread. We only demand it should be collected before the end of this Wednesday.”

Eric was last seen on Sunday October 15, 2023. He was a truck pusher and had neither wife nor child.
