Douala: CRM detainee chained to hospital bed

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party activist, Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe has again been chained to his hospital bed in the Laquintini hospital of Douala.

The CRM party in a statement on August 22nd 2022 condemned this continues barbaric treatment reserved for CRM militants, supporters and sympathizers in detention facilities in the Littoral, Centre and West regions.

“The CRM wishes to inform the public that in an August 03 2022 press release, the party denounced the chaining of Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe to his hospital bed. Authorities took action and the chains were removed. To our greatest surprise, KOUAM TATCHUEMO Adolphe was again chained in the days that followed, and is still chained at the time we are making public this press release.” The statement reads.

Even though he had his leg chained back to the bed on which he has been hospitalized, a prison guard has been assigned by the prison administration to monitor him since his admission to hospital.

“As inhuman as it may seem, even the assigned prison guard abandoned Kouam Tatcheumo Adolphe chained while running his personal errands out there. Tatcheumo is forced to beg persons of good will to go in search of the prison guard in case he needs to ease himself.” The statement stressed.

Prof Maurice Kamto’s party indicated that it will never support a regime that treats a Cameroonian in such a horrible manner in the 21st century.

“The CRM once again denounces this inhuman, degrading and cruel act inflicted on Kouam Adolphe, who is in no way a wild beast. A political prisoner thrown in prison for his opinions, in this case, for denouncing bad governance, should not for whatsoever reason be subjected to such a treatment of pure wickedness.”

The CRM officials regret the fact that corrupt authorities are allowed in comfortable offices and embezzlers of public funds either freed from jail and/or given a VIP treatment while imprisoned. They fume at officials condemning and torturing innocent civilians while supporting, winning and dinning with embezzlers and corrupt government authorities.

Kouam Tatcheumo was arrested on September 22, 2020 during the CRM nation-wide peaceful protest and was slammed a two-year jail sentence by the Douala Military Tribunal.
