Civic tech launches social accountability app, “ifollowTheMoney”
A civic tech group, Connected Development, CODE has launched an online civic engagement platform “ifollowTheMoney” app which seeks to empower youths with knowledge and skills to initiate budget tracking in the country.
The application which was launched yesterday November 25th and hosted on web , IOS and android is said to run in six different languages namely English, French , Arabic ,Amharic, Swahili and Portuguese.
According to the Chief Executive of Connected Development, Hamzat Lawal, the platform will empower youths with the right tools to seek and make better demands from the government and thus advance democracy.
“Our goal is to ensure that citizens in nine countries have the capacity and knowledge to drive accountability and transparency in public governance”.
He stated that the purpose is for citizens to enjoy the dividends of democracy as the tool is designed to foster participation in public space and public discourse in our indigenous languages.
The platform is reported to host courses that will empower youths with the knowledge and skills to initiate budget tracking, citizen participation, policy formulation and advocacy amongst others. The FTM app will build and empower an online community of passionate citizens to actively participate in governance and hold the government accountable for quality service delivery in Africa.
IFollowTheMoney initiative is a grassroots based mobilization tool that provides unique value to citizens by ensuring quality service delivery and social justice through tracking budgetary allocations and funds expected to provide quality education, healthcare services, water and sanitation, good infrastructures where citizens can hold their elected representatives to account.
