Circulation resumes along the Bamenyam – Awing stretch after three days of inactivity

By Stephen TADAHA

The stretch from Bamenyam in the West Region to Awing in the North West Region which was blocked last Saturday, September 2 by an irate crowd at Bamenyam Square, was opened on Tuesday, September 5, thanks to the intervention of the Senior Divisional Officer for Bamboutos, David Dador Dibango.

A first intervention from the SDO on Monday yielded no fruits. A second intervention the SDO did on Tuesday, September 5, resulted in the opening of the road thanks to collaboration among heads of the Awing and Bamenyam development committees, municipal and traditional authorities from both localities

The population had blocked the road, demanding the release of two girls aged about 15 and 20 who were abducted by 6 unknown individuals in the Tchegou neighborhood.

Local sources said that the two girls who are students of GBHS Bamenyam have not yet been released but administrative authorities together with security forces and the local vigilante committee have promised to double efforts to ensure their release.

In mediating for calm to return in Bamenyam, David Dador Dibango insisted on the need to preserve the social coexistence that has existed between the two brotherly and neighboring villages.

A similar situation happened in November last year after a 16-year-old student was kidnapped by unidentified men and only freed 5 days later.
