Cameroon’s U20 Lionesses outperformed the rising starlets of Kenya, with a resounding 3-0 victory in the 1st leg of the 3rd round U20 women’s world cup qualifiers.
The game’s momentum quickly swung in favour of Cameroon when Felicia Enganemben scored the opening goal from close range and soon 2-0 after Enganemben intercepted the ball, dribbled her way into the box and striked from the left-flank to name her brace.
In an Attempt to lunch a counter attack, Kenya gave room to a loose ball, resulting to a 3rd goal for Cameroon, a testament to Captain Naomi’s unrelenting resolve, who seized the opportunity to score amidst a crowded box, bringing Cameroon’s tally to 3-0 right before the break.
Despite coming into the game with a rich profile, Kenya’s goalscoring opportunities were thwarted by Cameroon’s defense led by the indomitable duo of Marlene Essimi and Mariane INES.
Both teams still hold a chance to advance, with Cameroon reigning at the top of the ladder and Kenya facing a daunting 3-goal deficit ahead of the second leg, which will determine the team to progress to the last qualifying round.
