Cameroon appears scores of times in the infamous Epstein Files. “Cameroon” appears under Data Set 9 in an email from Larry H. Summers, former US Secretary of the Treasury. Summers in a June 2013 email says he will be speaking at an economic forum in Gabon and asks Jeffrey Epstein if he knows the presidents of Senegal or Cameroon. “Do you know president? Or of Senegal Congo cent aft republic
Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Angola?” he asks Epstein in the email which CNA has seen a copy of from the files.
In another email dated 2013 from virologist Nathan Wolfe to Epstein, the scientist proposes conducting a study on what he calls “microbial hypersexuality” in Cameroon. Places like Yaounde, Bertuoa, Bamenda, Bafoussam and Kribi are targeted. Wolfe who was recently fired from his position at the prestigious US-based Stanford University for his ties to Epstein, outlines plans to launch or expand a research initiative referred to as a “Microbial Hypersexuality” study in Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The proposal suggests:
Adding a “hypersexuality index questionnaire” to existing human HIV prevention studies. Expanding specimen collection (including genital swabs). Studying links between sexual behavior and microbial diversity.
Leveraging ongoing USAID-funded research among female sex workers (FSW) and men who have sex with men (MSM) in Cameroon.
Using existing local partnerships and funding infrastructure. Under Data Set 11 which is an excerpt from a New Yorker magazine article titled “Letter from Cameroon: The Doomsday Strain” by Michael Specter, the author commends Wolfe for his pioneering efforts to prevent the next global viral pandemic by tracking dangerous viruses at their source at a forest in Cameroon. The author narrates an experience he had with Nathan Wolfe, an associate of Epstein’s, during a field visit to southeastern Cameroon. Wolfe is quoted as warning that wild animals sold as bushmeat—particularly primates and bats—serve as “viral warehouses” capable of transmitting deadly pathogens to humans. His Global Viral Forecasting therefore monitored viruses in the region, aiming to detect them before they spread to humans. Wolfe is quoted as claiming that bushmeat consumption played a role in transmitting AIDS from apes to human beings
Under Data Set 9, mentions Cameroon in relation to an unspecified payroll. Meanwhile, another email under DataSet 10 from Jilla Moazami, executive assistant to the president of the International Peace Institute suggests that “Pakistan, Cameroon, and Syria “pose the greatest risk of further wild poliovirus
exportations in 2014.” Moazami is sending the email to a friend of hers who is being told to then forward it to Epstein. This is not a comprehensive list of mentions of Cameroon in the files but an initial list of mentions. Political careers have ended in Europe and some high-profile individuals in the US have also been fired from their positions due to ties with Epstein. US president Donald Trump’s name appears hundreds of times in the files and though Trump has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing in connection with the files, the mere mention of his name in the files has stained his second presidency. His connections with the child sex offender have also drawn sharp bipartisan criticism and led to a fall-out with some of his closest allies like Marjorie Taylor Greene. CNA will continue to review the files and we will release more of them and keep reporting on relevant aspects of the files that pertain to Cameroon as we go through them.
