Media mogul Rupert Murdoch calls off engagement two weeks after proposing

Plans towards the wedding between billionaire media tycoon, Rupert Murdoch and former police chaplain Ann Lesley Smith, have been scrapped, reports say.

The 92-year-old had only just engaged his new found love two weeks ago, but now it appears the New York Post owner has changed his mind.

Reports suggest that according to a source close to Rupert, the reason behind his abrupt change of mind could be the discomfort with Ann Smith’s evangelical views. However, the exact reason has not been disclosed.

After announcing their engagement in late March, Rupert Murdoch said he dreaded falling in love: “I was very nervous,” he remarked. “But I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy.”

Ann Smith, 66, was married to late Chester Smith, who was a country singer and radio/TV executive. “I am a widow 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman, so I speak Rupert’s language. We share the same beliefs,” said the now radio presenter.

She entered the picture after Murdoch divorced his fourth wife, former supermodel, Jerry Hall. He had earlier been married to three others Patricia Booker, Anna Mann, and Wendi Deng respectively.

Rupert Murdoch has six children from his first three marriages. He first tied the knot in 1956.
