British PM resigns just after 44 days in office

The new British prime minister, Liz Truss has resigned after being in office for just 1 month and two weeks. Truss resigned following a disastrous and rapidly reversed economic plan that sent the pound plunging and her government into chaos.
Having been officially appointed by Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 6, just days before the Queen’s death, Truss is now by far the shortest-serving prime minister in British history and will be remembered as one of the most cataclysmic.
Truss will remain the British prime minister in the interim until a search for her replacement can be finalized by Friday of next week.
On Wednesday, she assured the British Parliament during the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions session that she was a “fighter, not a quitte” so her resignation barely 24 hours later has shocked Britons and the world.
“I recognize that given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party,” Truss said in a brief speech outside 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister.
There have been calls for Boris Johnson to return as Prime Minister, but it is not yet clear if he will or whether he will win if he does run again.
