British High Commissioner leaves Cameroon

YAOUNDE- British High Commissioner to Cameroon and non-resident High Commissioner to Gabon and Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Christian Dennys-McClure, has come to the end of his mandate.
He leaves Cameroon after spending two years since his appointment in March 2021.
He will be noted for his cultural intelligence as he approached the people of Cameroon with playful words in their local parlance.
In a goodbye tweet, the British Diplomat noted that his success came as a result of the collective efforts of the High Commission’s employees.

Applauded as someone who ‘came to Rome and did as the romance’, he was however criticized by the Separatists for taking part in a meeting of the North West Regional Assembly. They said his participation with Councillors shows that the UK has endorsed the Grand National Dialogue over international talks to end the 6-year-old conflict in the North West region.
Earlier on June 22, 2023, the outgoing High Commissioner was received at the Star Building, by Camerooon’s PM, Dion Ngute. The Prime Minister said, they “welcomed the intensification of relations between our two countries over the past two years, particularly in terms of trade.”
The British High Commissioner leaves three weeks after presenting his letter of credence to President Paul Biya on June 5, 2023. An exercise that was supposed to take place immediately after he took over office. But the COVID-19 pandemic prevented such events to take place at the presidency.
