BRICS: Dion Ngute says Cameroon “engaged in same path”

Cameroon’s head of government Joseph Dion Ngute has said at the close of the 15th BRICS summit in South Africa, that Cameroon is deeply invested in development strategies aligned with the objectives of the now eleven-member bloc.

The five countries that make up the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) unanimously decided to add six more nations – Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, UAE, Iran and Saudi Arabia to the bloc.

The expansion is considered one of the steps towards countering the growing influence of the West, and fostering liberal economies. Joseph Dion Ngute said “Cameroon is actively engaged in this path.”

“In fact, Cameroon has embarked on a vigorous plan to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Agenda 2063, through the adoption of a national development strategy designed to make Cameroon an emerging country by 2035,” the Prime Minister outlined.

He added that “Cameroon welcomes and appreciates the various initiatives under discussion for the development of the African continent and the drive towards a fairer, more united and more equitable world.”

The three-day summit in Johannesburg which ended on Thursday, August 24, was aimed at looking at ways to widen the bloc’s influence in global affairs.

Africa appeared as a renewed ground of attraction to world powers with diverse diplomatic interests.
