Bamboutos SDO Creates Vigilante Groups To Fight Ambazonia Forces
The recent incursions into the West region by Ambazonia separatists fighters have been top on the agenda at the Presidency of Cameroon. Should the Separatists find fertile ground in the Bamboutos division, neighboring to the Mezam division in the northwest region, the government will have to start preparing to face security challenges in the entire West region.
After the recent visit of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo to the Bamboutos in the West Region, the Senior Divisional Officer for Bamboutos, François Franklin ETAPA in the application of recommendations taken during a security meeting held on Friday 23rd July to reorganise local vigilante committees in the Bamboutos in order to ensure the protection of the population, their goods, and properties.
It is in this light that the SDO on Thursday, July 29, 2021, signed a decision reorganising local vigilante committees in his area of command. The vigilante committees that will henceforth become formal and more organised will have as aim to collaborate with security forces to fight insecurity.
According to the decision, 1st, 2nd and 3rd class villages, all 4 subdivisions of the Bamboutos will constitute headquarters of the vigilante committees. Each committee will be made up of a bureau with well-defined posts of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, counselors, financial secretary, discipline master, etc.
It should be noted that these vigilante groups will benefit from government support, and their members will each possess professional cards.
