Providing a warm, intimate and supportive environment throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery as well as offering postnatal, neonatal and pediatric care to the population of Babadjou in the West, is the aim of the newly constructed mother and child facility at the Babadjou Medical Centre.

The mother and child facility’s construction cost over FCFA 300 million according to officials and was funded by the Public Investment Budget (PIB) of Babadjou. The centre was inaugurated over the weekend by the Divisional Officer for Babadjou, Yebga Ngos Mathieu Brice.

The facility equiped with modern equipments will henceforth improve post and neonatal services in the locality.

“The well equipped building is finally here, it is left on the population to make good use of it. This is a good step forward in our Municipality,” said Tsangue Gisèle, Lord Mayor of Babadjou.

“The building contains 2 offices, 10 individual wards, a reception hall and a labor room. This facility is a sigh of relief as told us by the Head of the Babadjou Medical Centre,” Dr Fotio Théophile added.

“This facility will help decongest the over 50 births per month we used to have. It will really facilitate things for us,” he added.

Some mothers CNA met at the center expressed satisfaction with the new facility.

“The place is really nice, it is not congested. This is the third child I’m delivered of. All my deliveries are here at the Babadjou Medical Centre. Before the arrival of this facility, pregnant women were really suffering. This is the first time I’m delivering with ease and it’s because of this attractive facility,” declared Mama Yvette, and internally displaced in Babadjou.

The facility was built with the objective of attaining a zero maternal and perinatal death rate by rehumanizing health care at the Babadjou Medical Centre.
