Armed men attack Catholic hospital leaving nurse and security guard in critical state

A nurse and a security guard on duty at the Catholic integrated hospital Gondon in Bafia, Mbam and Inoubou division of the Centre region have been left in a critical state after they were stabbed several times by two armed men.

They arrived the hospital at about 4:00am on August 7th onboard a motorcycle and smuggled themselves in. One of them who was armed with a dagger attacked the nurse on duty who instantly raised an alarm. The consequence of that was a stab wounnd in the abdomen, arm and knee.

“When my colleague discovered his life was in danger, he shouted for help. He called the security guard, Souley to help him. The guard came and tried to help but also got stabbed with the same dagger. He was stabbed in the chest, arm and leg. Souley despite the situation succeeded to seize the dagger from the attacker who then escape alongside his colleague before the arrival of the police” a health personnel in the facility explains.

“My colleague spent 6 hours in the operating room unconscious. We were very disturbed. But thank God he regained consciousness” he goes on.

Doctors in the Bafia District Hospital assured the victims are now out of danger.

The attack has been described by a patient at the Catholic integrated hospital Gondon as an act of insanity:

“Only an insane person can attack a hospital. I pray they get arrested. They stole from us. One of them stole my smartphone and charger . He pretended to be a worker here and assisted us to clean and arrange things. It was only when the nurse shouted for help that I understood he was a thief. I returned to my ward and discovered my phone was missing. Only the sim card was left behind.”

Meantime, security officials are still investigating the attack.
