Guinea: Ministers wear traditional attires during council meeting
The first Council of Ministers of the new Government was held on Thursday 18 April 2024, with all the Ministers present wearing traditional Guinean-made attires.
The President of the Republic and Head of State, Lieutenant General Mamadi Doumbouya who chaired the meeting was also dressed in a traditional outfit.
The Presidency said, “In an environment steeped in traditional textile values, Guinée Forestière stood out with its attire proudly worn at this weekly meeting, with the example set by the President of the Republic, an ambassador for the promotion of Guinean textiles.”
“After Sekou Touré, he’s the only president of Guinea we’ve seen who honors and respects our customs,” a Guinean who appreciated the move, said.
Another Guinean is rather preoccupied with the task of the new government, urging them to produce results, “I remember when the President of the Republic said that the people are watching you, so it’s up to you to satisfy the people, being at the head of a political Prime Minister who knows the reality of the country, and who was Minister for Reconciliation at one point in our country, so his program must be to bring the new authorities closer to the people, to create a climate of trust between the political class and the transitional government.”
