Despite losing their classification match against Tunisia 1 set to 3, Cameroon’s U17 boys still put up a solid fight in the 2023 U17 boys African Volleyball Championship, ultimately landing a respectable fourth-place ranking.
Before their loss to Tunisia in the 3rd and 4th place classification game, Cameroon had previously fallen to Egypt in the semifinals after receiving a 3-0 defeat in set counts.
Egypt’s U17 being the Force of the competition went on to take the championship title after defeating host country Libya in a convincing 3-0 victory.
However, it wasn’t all disappointment for Cameroon. As Cameroonian Middle blocker Houmsou Prosper received recognition as the Best Middle Blocker of the entire championship and earned a spot on the Dream Team of the 2023 U17 boys African Volleyball Championship. “It is a dream come true for me to have won Best Blocker and make it to the ‘Dream Team’. It will encourage me to work even harder so I can win more awards in my next competition.” Houmsou said
The tournament’s final rankings saw Egypt in first place, Libya as second, Tunisia in third, and Cameroon in fourth.
