PWD: President thanks Fans, calls for more efforts as club enters new season

By Stephen TADAHA

PWD president, Pascal Abunde urged supporters not to be disappointed and to relent in no effort to make the team one of the best in the country.

The President made the declaration on Thursday, September 28 in an “end of season statement” to officially turn the 2023 football season which saw the club finish as runners in the Cameroon Cup after losing 2 nil to Fovu Club of Baham on September 24, 2023.

A season, president Abunde qualifies as “sweetish-bitter” because, despite the challenging situation reigning in the English speaking Regions due to the crisis and the lack of a home stadium, the team was fourth in group A of the Elite One Championship and 2nd in the Cameroon cup race of 128 teams.

The performance the president said, is the result of so much work done during the past 7 years when the team was still at the regional level.

PWD in its 61 years of existence, won two major titles, a League and a Cameroon Cup respectively in the years 2020 and 2021.

The club which remains one of oldest in Cameroon, was relegated to the 2nd division in 2005 after finishing 15th in the 18-team league that year and played the North West Regional championship till 2016 when it resurfaced in the elite 2. The club only regained the top-flyer championship during the 2017/2018 season after finishing 2nd in the Elite 2 the previous year.
