The former vice president and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, have gone against the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Council (PEPC), says they are ready to head to court.
This was after PEPC had on Wednesday September 6, 2023, struck out their petition challenging the victory of president Bola Tinubu of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23 election.
The Leadership newspaper reported that, PEPC said, the petitions by the candidates and their parties lacked merit.
According to Vanguard, Atiku spoke in a press conference at PDP National Secretariat, Abuja on September 7, 2023, stating that; “I urge all my supporters to remain steadfast. I urge them to take solace in an immortal lesson I learned from my leader and mentor, the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, that losing a battle is less important than losing a war,”.
“My decision to go to court is anchored in my belief that the court is the sanctuary of justice. The journey of my political career holds so much to the courage and fearless decision of our judiciary,” he further explained.
On his part, Vanguard reported that Peter Obi spoke at his home in Onitsha, saying “ As petitioners in this case, we respect the views and rulings of the court but we disagree with the court’s reasoning and conclusions in the judgement it delivered. It is my intention as presidential candidate to challenge this judgement by way of appeal immediately, as allowed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”.
