Yaounde: Gang of jailbreakers apprehended

A gang of four thieves, three of whom escaped from jail, has been tracked down by the Police in Yaounde, following a series of armed robberies reported in several neighborhoods of the capital city.

Talla Kamwa Eric – 45 years old, Meyo Audrey – 34, Melon Tchoupou Kevin Thomas – 32, and Alaka Jean Marie – 28, are the four members of the notorious gang.

Police sources reveal that they broke into the Yaounde IV and V councils, making away with the sums of 33 million and 11.5 million FCFA respectively, the ENEO agency of Essos where they stole 18 million FCFA, and an agency of exchange in Emana which was robbed of 80 million FCFA.

Commissioner of Police, Christine Irene Mindjom, said the numerous thefts led to an investigation.

“At the beginning of February, a source informed us that there had been several thefts in our sector in Ekounou.

“We first laid hands on the first culprit who was in possession of a hunting rifle, his arrest helped us to apprehend another suspect Meyo Audrey who had also escaped from prison, next we caught Melong Kevin on the same day, at the end of the day we apprehended Kamwa Eric, head of the gang, who was carrying a pistol” the Commissioner of Police disclosed.

“We have other robberies by the gang that we are yet to establish” she indicated, adding that they’re still looking for the victims who as a result of being robbed, had to relocate.
