Loum: knives, scissors, phones found in students’ bags during random search

The Divisional Officer (DO) of Loum, Pascal Zoua has paid a surprise visit to some schools in his area of command. He made this visit in the early hours of January 18 and Government Secondary School Loum was his major target. In most of the schools, students were not in their classrooms at 8am as well as a good number of teachers.

The DO decided to personally carry out search on the students of Government Secondary School Loum and was devastated to find dangerous objects like knives, scissors and phones in their bags. Some also had over grown hair while others had tinted hair.

“How can a child carry phone and knife to school? What do they really want to use these things for? How did they get into school with security guards at the gate without being searched? At 8am teachers and students are yet to be in class?” the Divisional Officer wondered.

The DO personally sent away a majority of students and used scissors to shave most of their hair.

An emergency meeting was quickly held this morning between the DO and school staff to caution them about all what he saw and he even explained why such negligence could lead to students attacking and killing either teachers or their peers.

The teachers were urged to discipline students and ensure that each student is properly searched before entering school as well as ensure the students have proper hair cuts and uniforms.
