Cameroon artists get ready to receive their dues

Artists in Cameroon have been called upon to submit documents to enable them get their royalties paid by competent authorities within a 48-hour deadline. This operation targets 685 artists, producers and music editors.

In all a total of F CFA1.2 billion worth of author’s rights counted between the years 2005 to 2017 will be given to duely registered CMC and SONACAM artists. The highest beneficiary is expected to get F CFA 5 million while the lowest shall get less than F CFA5.000.

This first phase of the financial distribution, long awaited by artists, is thanks to a come together of four authors rights bodies: CMC, SCAAP, SOCILADRA and SOCADAP.

The issue of author’s rights has been under the rocks for decades in Cameroon as some have died without getting the dues they deserved for their economic and moral dedication to the Cameroon music industry.

The second phase of payment is expected to begin by the end of August 2022
