South Africa’s Cape Town International Airport has won the 2022 Best Airport in Africa award at the 2022 World Airports Awards held in Paris on June 16.
The news was celebrated by the authorities of Cape Town, a city which also serves as South Africa’s legislative capital and one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
“This award is what brings global attention and gives airlines confidence in flying to the Mother City. It is also a show of economic readiness as a city, because connecting Cape Town to more cities and countries means that we can welcome more visitors and create more jobs through tourism and provide trade opportunities to increase export of proudly Cape products to the rest of the world,” said Alderman James Vos, the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.
This is the seventh consecutive time that Cape Town International is winning the coveted title of Africa’s best airport. The results came from a customer satisfaction survey in which customers also rated the airport as the “Cleanest Airport in Africa” as well as “Best Staff in Africa” accolade.
Another ranking by Business Insider Africa ranks the airport as the top airport in Africa for infrastructure as well as customer satisfaction.
According to the Business Insider which is based on UK-based Skytrax’s ratings, Cape Town International Airport is closely followed by King Shaka Airport in Durban, South Africa in second place and O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg comes in the third place.
