Cameroon Ambassador To Switzerland Alerts Swiss Security On Planned Attack Against Paul Biya

The Cameroon Ambassador to Switzerland, Leonard Henri Bindzi, has called on the attention of the Swiss government on the safety of President Paul Biya and wife Chantal, after members of a Diaspora based opposition group, Brigards Anti Sardinards, BAS, announced that they were going to invade Geneva on Saturday, July 17, 2021, to chase President Biya from the Intercontinental hotel where he is allegedly lodging.

He describes BAS as “extremists” with an irresponsible idea meant to destabilize the institutions of Cameroon represented by Paul Biya. Ambassador Bindzi said the Swiss security services have been informed of this imminent attack on President Biya and his wife, Chantal.

BAS issues a flyer calling on more than 5000 members in the Diaspora to converge on Geneva for the event on Saturday.

An activist who on Sunday passed around the hotel intercontinental in Geneva said his vehicle was searched by Geneva Police. He narrated how tight security has been beefed up around the area.

On Sunday, July 11, 2021, the civil cabinet at the Presidency of Cameroon announced that President Biya and his wife Chantal were on their way to Europe for a short private stay.

The last experience of President Biya in Geneva was bitter and caused some of his bodyguards to be judged and found guilty by Geneva court after they molested a Swiss journalist. Since then, this is the first visit in two years that Mr. Biya has made to Switzerland.
