Christmas Day Shooting In Ndian: Three Killed, House Set Ablaze In Toko

Mundemba, Cameroon-Monday December 25, 2017-23:30 PM Local Time (Cameroon News Agency) Two Gendarmes and the Commander of the Toko Brigade in Ndian Division have reportedly been shot dead in an ambush earlier on Christmas day, CNA has learned.

The house of the SDO for Ndian Etta Mbokaya Ashu has allegedly been set ablaze by unknown armed men.

A resident confirmed to CNA that “Information from my village Toko – 36km from Mundemba head quarters of Ndian Division says there was an attack leaving some persons dead.”

The government is still to react on this development. Cameroon News Agency has learned the corpses have been deposited at the Mundemba hospital mortuary. But we are yet to confirm the modus operandi of the attackers and what actually transpired during the shootings. We cannot independently confirm these deaths.

The Christmas day shooting is the first time the division is being attacked since security forces became targets of unknown gun men described by the State as secessionists fighting for self rule in the former Southern Cameroon.

Toko village had once been in a tough battle against the Herakles Farm which finally left Cameroon after villagers complained their lands were being used with little or no compensation.

 Following reports of alleged killing of two Gendarmes and a Brigade Commander in Toko, Ndian divisiojn in the South west region Monday, Cameroon News Agency can now confirmed from reliable sources that the three were shot but are battling with wounds incurred during the shooting.

According to sources, the Commander who is said to be new in the area was shot on the head and shoulder as he attempted to protect his elements . One Gendarme was said to be missing but reports early Tuesday says all three are responding to treatment.

There are unconfirmed reports that some of the assailants were neutralized during the attack. CNA can confirm that the house of the Civil Administrator of the area was set ablaze by unknown persons.

A security meeting in underway in the division as government is yet to make a statement on the incident.
