Zogo case: Amougou Belinga, accused of “complicity in torture by aid”

The President of the Anecdote group Amougou Belinga has been accused of “complicity in torture by aid” in relation to the murder of journalist Martinez Zogo. He has been remanded in custody at the Kondengui central prison.

After spending 25 days at the Secretariat of State for Defense, SED, all suspects were brought before the Military Court in Yaounde on March 3rd.

After a long night of court proceedings, Lieutenant Colonel Justin Danwe, the Director of the secret service Maxime Eko Eko and all members of the murder squad were charged with torture and kidnapping. They were given 6 months of provisional detention at kondengui.

Justin Danwe had allegedly confessed to being the leader of the gang of 30 he had mobilized for the assassination of Martinez Zogo.

However, other close collaborators arrested alongside Amougou Belinga including Bruno Bidjang, Director of the media group, and retired Colonel Etoundi Nsoe, his father-in-law and his personal driver have been released.

The case will now be taken to the courts for trial and eventual sentencing.
