Young Youths FC Wins LCDA Anti Drug Cup
Over 16 registered male teams took part in this competition with Young Youths FC emerging as the winners with a cash prize of 250.000frs and a trophy. Street 3 FC and Quarter 5 FC, emerged second and third and were awarded 150.000frs and 75000frs respectively.
The Local Community Development Association in collaboration with some youths in Soppo, Buea, South West region organized the one-month football competition to build and strengthen the spirit of togetherness amongst the youths and to fight against other social ills especially with the resumption of the 2021/2022 academic year.
During this competition, Local Community Development Association Founder and President, Njoka Laye Walter drilled the youths on the effects of drug consumption and the need to be leaders amongst their peers and in their various communities.
According to the LCDA founder, the consumption of drugs or substances like tramadol, marijuana, and cocaine can lead to immediate death, psychological problems, depression, mental problems as well as it can shatter every prospective dream and ambition. He thus called on these youths to be everyone’s keeper and should report to appropriate quarters if they find suspected cases of drug consumption.
During the final game of the competition, a gala match was also organized pitting Street Seven versus Street Eight women, with the former emerging as winners going home with a trophy and cash prize of 75. 000 FCFA.
It should be noted that this activity is part of the LCDA’s many efforts in using sports to promote local development amongst the youths.
In a related development, over 1500 youths, between the ages of 16 to 29 have pledged to be ambassadors in the fight against drug consumption amongst their peers. They were schooled during the Youth Camp recently organized at Saint Andrew’s Parish, Muea. The talk was given by the Local Community Development Association with the goal to build resilience in the youths against this cankerworm.
It is a general tradition for the young people of the Catholic Church Saint Andrew’s Parish Muea to gather for their yearly youth camp during which the youths showcase their talents in football and handball. These youths also take part in activities like debates, singing, dancing, and drama. It is also an opportunity for youths also receive moral, educational, and spiritual talks on some key issues affecting their lives.
Representing LCDA, Mr. Kah Prosper Kum cautioned the youths on the psychological, mental, physical side effects of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, tramadol, and others. These drugs cause severe damages such as death, mental disorder, academic underperformance, expulsion from school, and moral decadence. These young Christians were told that if they want to secure a bright future, they must abandon drug consumption and join in the fight to eradicate this ill in society. The youths welcomed the talk and pledged to be ambassadors in the fight against this cankerworm.
Created in 2006, the Local Community Development Association, LCDA is continuously positioning itself as a veritable actor in accompanying the youths to become the leaders of tomorrow.
