Yaounde: two suspected armed bandits arrested
Two suspected armed bandits have been arrested and presented to the public by elements of the Odza gendarmerie unit in Yaounde.
The two fell in the dragnets of the security forces during a raid in the Odza neighbourhood on September 24 at about 4:00am.
According to the commander of this gendarmerie brigade, he immediately ordered a raid in the neighbourhood precisely at “Petit Marché Odza” when they received reports of a motorcycle reportedly stolen by four armed individuals.
Among the two suspects arrested was the gang leader in possession of a gun with a 7-round magazine of 9 mm caliber.
The Odza Gendarmerie elements identified them as foreign nationals. Both suspects are still in Gendarmerie custody responding to questions while two of their accomplices are still on the run.
Odza is one of the localities in Yaounde experiencing a rise in the rate of insecurity. The local population had implored authorities to beef up security to protect them from repeated attacks and robberies orchestrated by men of the underworld.
