Yaounde trade and commerce expose unscrupulous gas vendors

Officials of the price control brigade at the ministry of commerce have embarked on the sale of 110 bottles of domestic gas in the Mfoundi division.

The gas bottles were seized from some unscrupulous vendors who had increased prices of the 12.5kg bottles from 6500-7500 or 8000fcfa “We received calls from the 1502 toll free number, people complained of gas vendors who had added 500-1000frs on bottles depending on the brands” an official from the ministry of commerce.

Since August 2022, several neighbourhoods in the Littoral, Centre and East regions have been witnessing a scarcity in domestic gas supply forcing many to search for different alternatives “I have walked round town to get SCTM gas bottle in vain. When you find, people scramble and before you come back with your bottle, it is sold out. I have bought my charcoal pot” Merveille, a Yaounde inhabitant said.

In September 2019, the minister of commerce put the 1502 toll free number at the reach of the population, to denounce frauds and price hikes in markets.

Some persons in the magnet attribute the shortage to late deliveries from their main supplier but at the ministry of commerce, they blame vendors of trying to make gain from the people’s plights.

The sale which began September 21 will continue until all the seized gas bottles are sold out.
