Yaounde: suspected killers of taxi driver arrested

Gendarmes in Yaounde have apprehended five individuals suspected of killing a taxi driver, aged 42 in a village called Awai in December last year.

According to the head of the crime investigation unit of the first National Gendarmerie region, Lt. Col. Guy Abanda Mvogo, this gang targeted the taxi:

” Their primary intention was to steal his taxi to transform and sell. As desperate as they were, these hoodlums wasted no time to murder him in cold blood”.

One of the suspects during their public presentation in Yaounde told the forces of law and order his accomplice seized a knife from his hand and immediately stabbed the taxi driver in the neck several times before another used a machete on him.

“After killing the driver, they carried his corpse, went and buried it in bush far away from the crime scene,” Lt. Col. Abanda Mvogo added.

Investigations opened led to the arrest of the suspects in Yaounde, Mfou and Abong-Mbang.

“When we arrested them, they explained to us how they carried out the crime. They also took us to the bush where they had buried the victim’s body. Rescue soldiers had to exhume to corpse for proper burial by the deceased’s family,” the Lt. Col. further explained.

Search operations are still ongoing to track down a gang member still on the run.
