Yaoundé: Nanny allegedly kills toddler, fakes drowning

An autopsy has revealed that the two-year-old daughter of CAMWATER General Director, Blaise Moussa was killed before being thrown into the swimming pool to make it appear as though she had drowned. The tragedy occurred on Friday, February 21 in Yaoundé.
The incident reportedly began when the baby, Iris Victoria, repeatedly unplugged the phone of her nanny, named Sandra. Annoyed, Sandra struck the child on the head with the phone. The blow was fatal, causing Iris to fall on her back and receive another blow to the back of her head upon impact with the hard floor.
Mr. and Mrs. Moussa who were on a trip abroad were informed of their daughter’s death. News about the “drowning” spread rapidly on social media platforms, raising doubts among experts and observers who pointed out the rarity of drownings in young children.
On February 24, as Iris’s remains were being removed from Yaoundé General Hospital, the autopsy results confirmed their suspicions – the baby had indeed been killed.
Relatives, authorities, and many grieving sympathizers gathered to pay tributes to the young victim.
Sandra the nanny and three others have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder and in custody at the Judicial Police Station in Yaoundé.
