Yaounde: military court grants freedom to former university rector
“I am accused of stealing money from the University of Douala when I had left the institution” Professor Dieudonne Oyono, former rector of the University of Douala said.
The man who managed the public institution form 2012-2014, pleaded not guilty before the judge at the Yaounde military court and got a favourable response on September 19 2022, after spending five years at the Kondengui prison in Yaounde.
Prof. Dieudonne Oyono alongside three others, were accused of syphoning F CFA1.456 billion between the years 2013-2016:
“I managed over F CFA 800 million, the budget given for the construction of the annex schools of the University of Douala in Nkongsamba and Yabassi. We spent F CFA 675 million 744 thousand 620 before I was removed from the public institution on September 15 2015… The shady deals I am accused of signing, were signed after I left the University of Douala ” Prof. Dieudonne Oyono former rector of the University of Douala explained.
The money came from subventions from the ministry of economy, planning and regional development for the years 2013 and 2014.
Prof. Dieudonne Oyono is expected to leave the Yaounde central prison after administrative procedures are completed.
