Yaounde: 8 notorious hoodlums arrested
Eight suspected robbers from a group of recalcitrant teenagers aged between 15 and 20, have been apprehended by the Police in Ekounou, Yaounde, following countless complaints from the population.
The group had been wrecking havoc in the neighbourhood through harassment, aggressions, among other forms of public disturbances.
“We took the initiative to clear the zone of these thugs. The group is constituted of youths of 15 to 20 years led by an elderly person. This group has been causing havoc,” Christine Mindjom, Commissioner of Police in Ekounou indicated.
“They use masks, knives of all sorts,” she added. “When they attack their victims, they threaten to take their lives, and to show that they are serious, they wound them”.
Some of the victims have recounted distressing ordeals in the hands of the culprits.
This lady was attacked in her room while asleep; “I suddenly felt the hands of a man grab me violently,” she said. “They threatened to take my life if I resisted.”
Another victim said he was attacked by three of the hoodlums at once. “Three of them attacked me. I had the sum of 75,000 FCFA and my mobile phone which they took,” he added they used a machete to inflict an injury on his leg in the process.
The Police in Ekounou led by Commissioner Christine Mindjom, have vowed to put an end to the disorder caused by the recalcitrant youths in the area.
