Yaounde: 11 suspected drug traffickers and burglars arrested in possession of over 100 ID cards

Elements of the first Gendarmerie region in Yaounde have presented a gang of drug traffickers and burglars to the public. The suspects were presented to the public on Wednesday January 11 in the yard of the Gendarmerie unit.

Authorities say over 100 ID cards most probably belonging to thier victims were found in their possession as well as weapons and a stock of cannabis.

” Our investigations permitted us to discover their hideout and arrest the men. They were in possession of hard drugs including cannabis, mobile telephones and more than 100 ID cards of persons they have attacked. It is possible to use those ID cards to fake personality. The phones facilitated their operations,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Guy Abanda Mvogo to the press.


Apart from these drugs and phones displayed, a car and about 6 motorcycles they allegedly used to supply the different types of drugs in Yaounde and other cities were presented to the public.

” These young men were well organized and equiped. This tells you how lucrative this drug business is. They were able to afford a car for distribution. The bikes were seized and stolen from victims,” the Lieutenant Colonel added

Among the arrested people were a student and a man who works in the police force. All the 11 suspects are currently waiting to be transferred to priosn pending trial.
