World Cup Qualifiers: Dynamo striker Leonel Ateba replaces injured Aboubakar
By Joe Pavel
Leonel Ateba of Elite One side Dynamo FC of Douala, will replace Vincent Aboubakar who had been selected for Cameroon’s two FIFA World Cup qualification games against Mauritius and Libya.
Besiktas announced Aboubakar’s injury after the outing against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, November 9. Many fear it might prevent him from representing the Indomitable Lions at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Rigobert Song’s reinforcement Ateba, now adds to the reduced squad as preparations mount ahead of the two matches against Mauritius and Libya on November 17 and 21 respectively.
Ateba is currently Dynamo’s best player, with five goals in six matches so far. He was handed the Dynamo October player of the month award after a 1-1 draw against Colombe of Dja and Lobo on Sunday, November 15.
The Dynamo of Douala striker gets his first call-up, and is the only local player on the list of 24 for the two upcoming World Cup qualification matches.
